City
How is it described?
Walter sates how he goes to the Green Hat and how there is a pianist and a guy that blows the Sax.
As Walter takes a long drive way past South Chicago he sees steel mills and big black chimneys.
Later, he went way to Wisconsin and looked at the farms.
Finally he sits back at the curb at 39th and South park way and sees Negroes.

What do we learn from the description?
When Walter talks about how he goes to the Green Hat you can infer that he just wants to get away from all his problems and just be alone.
From this we notice that where he goes he sees rundown and rusty steel mills.
Also, you can infer that the people like, the farmer at the farm are not rich.

House
How is it described?
When Walter first starts imaging his "future" life he mentions how he will go up the steps to the house and the gardener would be clipping the hedges ...

What do we learn from the description?
Here Walters imagination grows very deep while he pictures what life would be like if he lived as a business man which would give him many advantages such as having a great house with his own workers. ( The way Walter is always dreaming about want he would like you can tell that he doesn't have any of them)

Furniture and Decorations

How is it described?
Walter leans over the Couch while he embraces his son.
Also, while Walter is imaging how his future will be he mentions Ruth running down stairs and meet him at the door.

What do we learn from the description?
The way the author only mentions a couch you can tell that the Youngers live a simple life.
Walter's imagination shows us that Walter wants a better life and feels like he is living an improvised life .
